ROSTER Pawsox blog #2 “Know Your Pawsox”

On August 25th 2012 the Red Sox completed a monumental trade by sending Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez and Nick Punto to Magic Johnson’s Los Angeles Dodgers. The Red Sox got back in return, Ivan De Jesus and Jerry Sands, (who were subsequently dealt to Pittsburgh for Joel Hanrahan), James Loney, who hit .230 with Boston in just 30 games and later granted free agency, as well as prospects Rubby De La Rosa and Allen Webster.

The latter, De La Rosa and Webster, are both with Pawtucket this season.

De La Rosa, who is 24 years old and signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers as an amateur free agent in 2007, does have a Sox connection. His grandmother worked as a nanny for Pedro and Ramon Martinez. Rubby also credits Pedro with teaching him how to throw a change-up. Martinez says, “He has an opportunity to be someone special. Not just a regular player, but special.” De La Rosa is currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and is on a strict pitch count.

Allen Webster, 23, the 6’ 2” right hander, made his major league debut this year with the Sox. Webster pitched 6 innings, only giving up 2 earned runs in the start. He is exciting to watch with a fastball that can top off at 99 mph. Webster is 1-0 with a 2.70 ERA with the Pawsox. Most impressively, he has 26 strikeouts in 20 innings with only 6 walks.

Both players are a part of what will make Pawtucket so exciting to watch this season and before the year is over they could both make an impact with Boston.

ROSTER Pawsox blog 4.24.13

What do Dustin Pedroia, Will Middlebrooks, Jacoby Ellsbury and John Lester all have in common? They have played at McCoy Stadium as members of the Pawtucket Red Sox. By now, I don’t think the Pawsox and McCoy stadium are secrets to most New England baseball fans, but the success of the current team in the young season may be. At 9-1, the Pawsox are 2 1/2 games up in the north region of the International League.

Built in 1942, McCoy Stadium has been the home of the minor league affiliates of the Boston Braves and Cleveland Indians before settling on the Red Sox in 1970. Every seat in the park is a good one; whether it’s the green box seats along the 1st and 3rd base line or the grassy knoll just over the left field wall. How can you not like cheap food? “Dollar Menu Mondays” ALONE is enough to get me to the stadium.

ROSTER is returning as the Pawtucket Red Sox official sponsor of “Tweet Your Seat” for the second year in a row. It allows fans at the park to tweet their seat location to @Pawsox and @ROSTERSTORES for a chance to win a $25.00 gift card to ROSTER!

There is no better time than now. Head down to McCoy, watch the first place Pawsox and don’t forget to “Tweet Your Seat!”
